Porcelanosa Project Featured On New York By Design

Porcelanosa is featured on the new CBS show – New York By Design! Each episode features prominent properties in New York, and at the end of each episode, a judging deliberation will result in one or more properties being chosen to go through to the 6th and final ‘Top 10’ episode to determine which project is New York’s ultimate architectural design statement of the season.

Porcelanosa’s very own Jordana Moche, Managing Director of the NYC Flagship location, is also featured as one of the judges throughout the season.

Porcelanosa has sponsored the Exterior Design Award, which will be presented to one featured project with an exceptional exterior design.

“With the exterior award, I’m looking for what’s unique in the environment, great materials, and what fits in within the neighborhood,” Jordana shares. “The exterior of the building is very important, because it’s what you see while you’re approaching the building. It is the envelope of the building, and it is what invites you to come inside.”

The project Convivium is featured as a nominee for the People’s Choice Award!

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Convivium is a luxury apartment complex located at 515 East 86th Street in the Upper East Side area of Manhattan, New York. It is a massive 22 story building with 140 apartments that vary between studio, one, two and three bedroom units, and over 45% of the units have outdoor balconies and terraces. It is near the East River and within walking distance of Carl Schurz Park.

The building is covered with 18,000 square feet of large format porcelain panels. There are two different types of large porcelain panels (one with a light grey hue, and the other with a dark grey tone), which were both custom designed for the project. The ventilated porcelain rainscreen system supplied by Porcelanosa Facades helped Convivium achieve the Passive House certification, which is a rigorous standard focused on high performing thermal envelope to reduce the building’s ecological footprint.

New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) recognized Convivium’s achievements and awarded the Buildings of Excellence Awards. The New York State considers Convivium a case study for future net zero buildings in the state, as it was designed to Passive Haus standards.

Many other Porcelanosa products are featured throughout the building. The terraces and other shared access outdoor spaces of Convivium are covered with Porcelanosa’s Max Grey tiles. The lobby within Convivium brings the outside of the building’s design inside by using XTONE Savage Dark large format porcelain panels on the walls, and is accented by Ice Minnesota Moka.

Many of the bathrooms within units also feature custom designed KRION® sinks, full bathtub and shower installations, and large vanity units. The bathrooms are covered in Prada Acero tiles, and some units have the matching Mombasa Prada Acero tiles within them. Meanwhile, the floors within some of the kitchen spaces have Boston Stone tiles to help distinguish the kitchen area. The penthouse units in Convivium use Sochi Blanco within their bathrooms for an elevated & elegant look.
