Imperband

uses

  • Public and Private Bathrooms
  • Public and Private Showers
  • Saunas
  • Damp Areas
  • Balconies
  • Terraces

Imperband is 0.5-mm. thick polyethylene membrane with special fabric on both sides that enables its installation using cement-based adhesives. Suitable for the waterproofing of damp areas prior to the installation of ceramic wall and floor tiles, natural stone and any other type of light coverings.

Imperband is ideally suited for new construction work as well as refurbishing projects, on both floors and wall in bathrooms, showers and areas where there is a risk of moisture filtrations.

Substrates and characteristics

The substrate or fixing surface should be dimensionally stable and non-deforming, with possible contractions from setting having already taken place. It should be compact throughout its entire thickness and surface, with any brittle or easily detachable pieces being removed. In installation in exteriors, on terraces, balconies, ect., render the necessary downward slopes leading to drains in order to ensure proper water evacuation. As a general rule, there's should have a slope of 1.5-2%.

The substrate should be completely free of dust, grease or any other substance that could compromise adhesion, and should not exhibit defect in planarity greater than 2mm., with this being checked using a 2-m. straightedge. In the event that dimensional defect or uneven substrates are present, they should be repaired using products specifically designed for this purpose. For substrates that lack the proper consistency or have a high rate of water absorption, use uniprim or butech universal bonding agent (UK Only) primer to enhance the internal cohesion and reduce the water absorption of the parging.

  • Store in a dry place in its original container
  • Pay special attention to the cleanliness of the substrate, avoiding objects that could pierce the sheeting and damage it.
  • Render the necessary slopes on the substrate before installing sheets.
  • Sheets should overlap at least 5cm., with the sheet on top facing downward on slopes.
  • We recommend that sheet installation be performed with super-one or one-flex.
  • Do not install in areas exposed to negative pressures.
  • Do not install on substrates exposed to strong movements.
  • Do no use in swimming pools or on terraces with unstable substrates.

INSTALLATION

1. It is a Characterized by its cutting and handling ease. Before installation, trim sheet to the necessary measurements.

2. To install imperband, the use of a type-C2 cement-based adhesive as per the EN 12004 standard is recommended. The bonding material should be applied using the thin-bed method, with a U-4 or U-6 notched trowel. Respect the adhesive's working times.

3. Once the sheet is placed over the adhesive, press down on the entire surface with the flat side of the notched trowel. This will ensure total coverage and prevent pockets of air from appearing.

4. Join different imperband sheets together with a minimum overlap of 5cm bond this overlap with the cement-based adhesive used previously. For overlaps between floor and wall sheets, place the wall sheet on top of the floor sheet, so that in the event of filtrations, water slides down the slope. Press down on the overlaps with the flat part of the notched trowel to prevent irregularities and voids between sheet overlap.

5. Use prefab angles by butech to waterproof inner and outer corners. If there are movement joints, imperband sheets should be separated, with the space over joints being sealed with butech's waterproof band.

6. We recommend the use of wide-rimmed drains to which imperband sheets can be bonded. The waterproofing of drains is performed with an imperband sheet cut with a round hole matching the diameter of the drain. Use adhesive to bond the sheet with the hold in it to the edges of the drain. Once the substrate as been waterproofed, ceramic tile installation can begin. No waiting time is necessary. The installation of the covering should be performed using the thin-bed method with a type C2 cement-based adhesive. For grouting installation joints, we recommend the use of the colorstuk line of mortars, which are characterized by their ease of application, resistance and the colorfastness of the joint. Materials should be prepared and applied in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

7. Wall-to-wall and floor-to-wall unions can be sealed with butech silicone s-502 (an anti-milder silicone sealant).
